Humorous Thrift Store Paintings

I always enjoy looking around at the Antique Emporium of Asbury Park, which has over 20,000 square feet of interesting finds, including furniture, art, ceramics, clothing, vintage jewelry and baseball cards, among other things. Here’s a pair of humorous paintings that I saw on a visit in the summer of 2020: at left, we have a painting by someone named “Floyd,” which depicts a shark wearing a backwards baseball cap and flannel shirt who is “fishing” for a man, using a can of Budweiser as bait … and he’s hooked the man, and laughs as he reels him in. Below right we have a canvas showing a close-up of Superman giving us the finger – I didn’t notice the artist’s name (if it’s even signed, I’m not sure), but the idea of The Man of Steel flipping us off cracks me up.

I didn’t buy either of these paintings on that particular day, but I certainly think they would be fun to add to my collection … maybe on a future visit, if they’re still there …
