I have a habit of seeing things out in the world and imagining them as art in a different context. Today I was walking through a neighborhood in Belleville NJ, and saw these dirty, old and torn sofa cushions placed on the curbside for garbage pick-up. I can’t say I’m out looking at living room furniture on any regular basis, but this kind of funky abstract art pattern seems like something that might have been made in the 1970s or 1980s, what do you think? It might have been a cool sofa at one point, but as I imagined this dirty and torn fabric stretched like a canvas and hanging in a gallery, it gets transformed into a pretty decent abstract expressionist painting. I’d hang that painting (below right) in my home, if it actually existed as a real painting.
