Art That Kills in NYC

I was walking around NYC visiting the galleries in Chelsea when I noticed the phrase “Art That Kills” stenciled on the sidewalk, in this case, spotted at the corner of 21st Street near 11th Avenue. As you can see from the picture below, it was positioned right next to this black spray paint art, and I assumed the two went together. I don’t have any way to confirm that they are the work of the same person, but visually it made sense, as the black paint line drawing almost seems to suggest to me a splattered body; I can see a face and limbs that suggest a person run over by a truck!

I wanted to try to find out more about the Art That Kills tag, and assumed it was a street artist, but a bit of digging around reveals it to be the name of a music label. The same-name website lists the label’s musical artists as Josué Thomas, Roc Marciano, and Trent Truce.

At any rate, whether these two tags are meant to be together or are separate, they certainly caught my attention. I’m sure countless people walk by this every day and may notice it and keep moving, but when I see things like this, I can’t help myself but to want to try to learn more about who made it or what the story behind it might be.
