Go NY, Go NY, Go! Knicks in the NBA Playoffs

My excitement is palpable as the 2024 NBA Playoffs are approaching and the NY Knicks have clinched the 2nd seed in the Eastern Conference. As you may have read in my last post, I’ve been a long suffering NY Knicks fan as far as it being a long time since they were in the NBA Finals (and was too young and not yet a fan when they won it in 1973). The picture above was from February of 2009 when Kobe Bryant set the visitor scoring record at Madison Square Garden by scoring 61 points. It irritated the hell out of me that there were more fans in the NYC stands wearing Kobe jerseys than Knicks gear!

But the past couple of years have seen an improvement in the Knicks and I’m very excited to see how they do this year. I can be a little superstitious at times, and think maybe I need to head back to Chappaqua (NY) where I saw these items below in various stores there – we’ve got a hideous basketball sweatsuit that does include the Knicks colors of orange and blue, along with a couple large-scale candles in the form of Nike hightops (see the candle wicks?). Maybe I can wear the sweatsuit and burn the candles for good luck while cheering on Jalen Brunson and the Knicks as they start the first round of the NBA playoffs this coming weekend.
