Octopus sculpture in Peekskill made of beer kegs

I was on a day trip up around Bear Mountain and eventually over to Peekskill, NY, and I saw this large-scale octopus sculpture outside of the River Outpost Brewing Company near Charles Point Park. A closer look reveals that it’s made out of empty beer kegs, and I think it’s very impressive. There was no sign or information there, but a little research reveals that it’s by artist Max Beachak, and consists of 140 kegs, resin, and wood, and was created in 2017.

I’m having a hard time finding a website for Max Beachak – maybe he doesn’t have one – but I do see that he’s both a tattoo artist and a one-time gallery owner (that appears to be closed), so it’s hard to know if this sculpture is typical of his work or not. At any rate, here’s a closer look, to better appreciate this massive octopus sculpture.

It’s funny that if you stop and think about it, an octopus sculpture near the Hudson River isn’t exactly accurate since a freshwater source such as a river is not a natural habitat for an octopus. One can generally find an octopus in oceans, especially in warm, tropical waters – which the Hudson River definitely is not. But a sculpture made of beer kegs outside of brewing company/bar certainly is a “natural habitat” for beer kegs! Here’s one more look at this awesome octopus sculpture …
